Dirty War in Dublin – Six episodes currently available on Spotify
I am an historian of modern Ireland. I have written extensively about Irish republicanism, the Irish Revolution and the Northern Ireland conflict, especially its impact on the Irish Republic. I am currently writing on Ireland’s global revolution (1916-23) and on the history of the Irish far-right. I have contributed to radio and television shows and podcasts. I write regularly for History Ireland magazine, have written ten entries for the Dictionary of Irish Biography and review widely for the Irish Times. I have contributed to Irish Historical Studies and Irish Political Studies. I have co-edited special editions of Saothar and of History Ireland. I contributed chapters for several recent collections (see images below) looking at republican policing, maritime workers and the struggle for independence, class and the Treaty, Mike Quill, and the IRA’s armed struggle. Current articles in production concern the legacy of the Official IRA, Zionism and Irish republicanism, Ireland’s post-war Nazi fringe and the Irish left and the modern ‘Troubles’. My recent podcast series Dirty War in Dublin (produced by Kevin Brannigan) looked at the Civil War ‘Murder Gang’ and their long afterlife.
